Meeting our Mentor & Warm Up Activities - Written by Emily,Keilla,Taemin, and Yan Hay

Meeting our Mentor - Today, we had the chance to meet our business mentor, Jeremy. He made a big impression with his loud, confident voice that filled the room and his animated gestures that brought energy to the conversation. Jeremy loves making eye contact, which some of us found a little intimidating! He seemed genuinely excited to share this project with us, and his confidence made it clear he’s ready to guide us with ease.

The Flower Pot - For the first activity Jeremy wanted us to look in different perspectives, he told us to first go on the floor and sit down, then he explained what our perspective was when we were younger. After that he told us to sit back at the tables and to take a sticky note Mr O gave us. Then he told us to draw something that could fit a flower and keep it alive and I’m sure everyone drew a flower pot. After drawing the flower pots Jeremy asked what we drew and we all replied with” Flower Pots”. Right after Jeremy asked us to take another sticky note and draw the same thing he asked us before but the only rule was that we could not draw a flower pot. Then when the timer went, and when he asked what did you guys come up with, there were many different ideas that exploded in the room like, a box filled with dirt, a toilet, a plastic water bottle and e.c.t

Rock-Paper-Scissors Game (winning vs losing, not all ideas are successful) He said to pair up with a partner and do a rock paper scissors game and he said to the winners ”how much percent is your winning?” and the winners said ”100%” and? The next round he asked the people who lost the first round but won the 2nd round, “how much present is your winning?” and they said”50%” and the next round he asked the people who lost 2 rounds and won the 3ed round he said”how much present is your winning? They said “33.333333333333%”

Paper Clip Activity - come up with different ideas for one thing (outside of the box thinking) When Jeremy first talked about the paper clip activity, I was stunned because I’ve never done anything similar before in my life. He gave us the information we needed and gave us a time limit. The information that I gathered was that we had to make a name for the idea we had for the paper clip, we had to make two ideas the group agrees on and have names for it. We also needed two or more sentences on why Jeremy would buy it. My group had a bit of help from Ms. Goslin, and one of the ideas we came up with was a card holder, though we still needed a more catchy name and some finishing touches for it and so I came up with the name “Game on Holder”. My whole group decided/ agreed that it was a much better name than the name “card holder”.
